At the start of the New Millenium, many worried about the future of Earth. People from all over the world worried that computers would crash because of the Millenium Bug or time would stop because computers had not been coded to handle the time change into the new millenium. They worried about the O-Zone burning away to nothing, glacier melt, and Depression or World War. Worry pressed darkness into people’s hearts and souls.

Then, as if by a miracle, a small group of children each found what they believed to be a chicken's egg in the midst of the world's turmoil.

What hatched from each egg could be considered either a miracle or a curse: a small dragon – full-grown and the size of a cat (with an added wingspan measurement, of course) upon birth – called an Athena dragon for all the wisdom and knowledge they possessed. The humans learned they were to become part of a small group called "Watchers," guardians of the knowledgeable creatures.

Since they couldn’t possibly tell anyone about the Athena Dragons – who would believe that they were protectors of a dragon anyway? – they decided to create a hobby site where they could each express their love for their talents (whatever they were) while telling of their adventures with their Athena Dragons, hence the Dragon’s Den Watch formed.
